(LD 56) Widdle Werewolves
Widdle Werewolves
Sometimes, your biggest enemy is yourself…
Ruh-roh, your mad scientist boyfriend Frank accidentally shrunk and duplicated you on the night of a full moon! Can you battle and merge your way back to your original size to save him from your feral werewolf clones, or will you fall victim to your own nature as a bumbling beast? Play our snakelike number dungeon romcom to find out!
…There are 54 wolves in you…
Features:
- Fully voice acted story!
- Has a functioning pause/option menu! [Only 2 options but still!]
- Works on mobile!
- Dynamic GUI scaling - weird shaped foldable phones (like mine), have no fear!
- Numbers go brrrrr!
- Spoopy vibes for spoopy month!
…one is fear, one is love, one is IBS, one is Steve, one commits tax fraud, one…
Information:
Widdle Werewolves is a snakelike number-dungeon[1] romcom maze. It controls with WASD (or regional equivalent), arrow keys, possibly controller due to default Godot inputs? and an on-screen d-pawpad that’s automatically (and permanently) toggled on for mobile users, while being automatically (but optionally) toggled off for PC users. You can pause[2] with ‘ESC’, spacebar, or ‘P’ (or regional non-QWERTY equivalent).
GAME TIPS:
You’re a lot faster than your tamed Dougs at the beginning, so it might seem frozen when they’re catching up to you on Boss Doug 256 (and the other bosses). Also, they may be tamed, but they’ve got clutzy claws, so try not to run into them while they’re following you around!
- [1] Also known as “those awful misleading ads for Hero Wars”
- [2] If you’ll be playing in fullscreen, ‘P’ or spacebar (or the on-screen button) are recommended for the pause menu since ‘ESC’ overlaps with the universal browser’s “get me outta this dang full screen” key. Additionally, Firefox or Opera are recommended for playing in fullscreen on PC, as it seems to run like crap in fullscreen Chrome (on my computer anyway). Outside of fullscreen, any browser works well!
…the wolf that survives depends on how much ass you kick.
BUG FIXES
- 10/08/2024 i couldn’t sleep knowing there were GAME BREAKING BUGS and ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES so i:
- Changed up the pathfinding for the tamed Dougs; they should now always be able to get to you when attacking bosses, even if they’re stuck somewhere
- Fixed the UI scaling on every scene because it was game-breakingly broken AF on mobile
- Minor tweaks to hitboxes/speed to assist in squashing the Game Breaking Bugs
- Added in a couple alternate keys for the pause menu bc ‘esc’ conflicts with browser exiting fullscreen button lmao
- 10/09/2024 I noticed while playtesting on mobile that you can still rarely get softlocked, for unknown Godot physics engine reasons, so I:
- Added in a “get unstuck” button that shows up in said situations. Can also be used to skip waiting on the Dougs to catch up to you if you’re impatient and catch the button in time.
- Also added a line to automatically enter fullscreen on mobile, due to LDjam’s embed being atrocious on mobile (but after letting the embed update, it doesn’t seem to work… so I guess just play on itch.io if you’re on mobile lol)
- Also also fixed the pause menu, which I broke while trying to fix mobile fullscreen lol, Godot engine has some weeeird bugs…
- 10/11/2024 Comments found random obscure gamebreaking bug so it’s fixing time!
- It seems to be a random-ass floating point error so I mostly added 50000 babyproofing statements and gatekeeping variables to prevent problem code from running unwantedly.
- I also added a version “number” to the options menu so I can more easily check if the embed updated lmao
- after seeing it on stream: fixed the 'help i'm stuck button' not going away after being used
