Entries for Four Color Art Jam :)

I wasn't satisfied with my original piece, which I think of as "Daphne and the Visitor", so I also made a butterfly at night. But I wasn't satisfied with how the purple looked on the butterfly background, so I tried a pure black BG and foregoing the purple from the palette.

On Daphne, I couldn't find a good watercolor version of the purple so I used a blue, but I wasn't satisfied. I stuck to the spirit of the jam by only using 4 colors from my palette though, trying to go for close enough. I started Daphne before the jam submissions opened and spent a couple days trying to flatten my watercolor picture to make "scanning" it easier. (I use a document camera instead of a scanner.)

On the butterfly I did mostly the same thing and used the same shades of red and pink, though I think the pink came out too dark on the butterfly this time around. For green I actually used two colors because I was trying to make the green match the hex color a bit better, I don't think it worked well though and it mostly just looks like the original shade of green I put down. I also went for a no-outline style on this piece as I found the combination of the hex-accurate pixel art outlines on Daphne to really expose how off-color the watercolor parts were. The butterfly was done in a day and was photographed with the document scanner while drying so it would still be kind of flat.

I might do more later if I can think of anything else good for this palette. This jam's been good for nudging me to practice doing "Water Pixels" as I like to call them. There are a lot of kinks to work out in my techniques and this jam has been good for working on them. :)
